To understand Accurately the frequency characteristics of a power grid provides basis for taking measures to ensure its safety and stability as well as economical operation.Based on PMU recorded data and with BPA,this paper analyzes the generator-triping accidents of 13 times occured in China Southern Power Grid(CSG) in January 2010.The results show that in view of frequency,CSG can basically be characterized with the following models: on-site measured models for the governor system of generators of which the model parameters have been tested, classical models with ±0.05 Hz of dead-band setting and 0.164 of frequency bias coefficient for the governor system of generators not be tested, and 4.0 of frequency coefficient for active power loads. The proposed models, however, are still to be validated for the situation where large disturbances happen as these models are from the data in January 2010 when the power unbalance and frequency variation of the generator-triping accidents are relatively small.
