Verification of gamma spectroscopy programs: a standardized approach

Abstract In this paper, the basic concepts contained in a proposed revision of the ANSI 42.14 standard for testing gamma spectroscopy software are used to evaluate peak search and area calculation algorithms currently in use in Canberra and Nuclear Data software packages, and show that they indeed meet the needs of most users. A discussion on the limitations of the algorithms within the scope of the tests is also provided.
