WCDMA DOWNLJNK CAPACITY IMPROVEMENT BY USING SMART ANTENNA

Heterogeneous typeofusersinmodernmobile communication expectnetworkservice provider providing high-speed data, multimedia andvoiceservices. However, capacity hasalways beenanissue toanygeneration ofmobile communication technologies as itisalwaysinversely proportionate toQoS(quality ofservice) innature. Hence, in order toincrease thesystemcapacity without jeopardizing the QoS,smartantennawas proposed toincrease thespectral effi'ciency ofthewireless channel. Manyresearch workshave shown thatthe systemcapacity of modern mobile communication canbeimproved byemploying smartantenna 111121. A dynamic radionetworksimulator was developed in Visual C++<tostudyandestimate thedownlink capacity ofa WCDMA systemwithsmartantenna.Capacity systemby usingdifferent smartantennastrategies was studied inthis research. Simulation was donebasedon single microcell environment withconsidering interference fromthefirst tier. Usermobility istakenintoaccounttoprovide a combined evaluation ofRadioResource Management (RRM).Capacity systemexpressed indownlink outage undervarious simulation scenarios wasrepresented inthis paper.
