Compact broadband monopole slot antenna for digital TV applications

A miniaturized monopole slot antenna is proposed to realize digital TV applications. This antenna is designed with the feed-in space and straight gap to effectively establish a wide bandwidth. However, in order to minimize an antenna size, a pair of slot lines is properly adopted to accomplish good impedance matching at the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed antenna can operate at the frequency band from 460 MHz to 1000 MHz in which VSWR is smaller than 2. The measured radiation patterns look like circles and eights. Particularly, the proposed antenna has gains ranging from 1.1 to 2.4dBi. Therefore, the proposed antenna has a wide impedance-matching bandwidth, good radiation patterns and fairly high gains for digital TV applications.
