Three years later (1954), when she was 40 years of age, a right stapes mobilization operation was performed (H.F.S.); however the crura were fractured and hearing was not improved. Six months later a fenestration of the horizontal canal was performed on that ear (H.F.S.). Split thickness skin grafts were placed on the exposed surfaces of a partially exenterated mastoid cavity. Auditory thresholds were moderately improved but the hearing was not restored to a practical hearing level (Fig. 1).
