A multigaussian ultrasonic beam model for high performance simulations on a personal computer

Representing the acoustic wave field of an ultrasonic transducer by a superposition of gaussian beams leads to a highly efficient ultrasonic beam model that can be easily implemented on an ordinary personal computer. Here, we describe a formulation of this multigaussian beam model that can simulate the wave fields of planar or focused transducers radiating at oblique incidence through a curved fluid-solid interface. A number of examples that illustrate the capabilities of this model are given.
