Design of Gateway Architecture for Real-Time A/V Streaming between IEEE1394 Network And Ethernet

This paper presents design architecture for multimedia streaming gateway to transfer audio/video (A/V) contents between IEEE1394 network and Ethernet. In IEEE 1394 network, digital video (DV) is the de-facto standard streaming format, and MPEG4 is a well-known streaming format used in Ethernet based network. A hardware and software co-designed architecture is suggested to support the real-time transcoding between IEEE 1394 based DV and Ethernet based MPEG4 streaming in this paper. And a prototype was implemented to verify the performance of the transcoder service in multiprotocol based home network environment.
