On the geographical distribution of the Drosophila subgenus in southern Brazil (Drosophilidae Diptera). The D. repleta species group Sturtevant 1942

Knowledge about the distribution of the species of Drosophilidae in Brazil has been increasing since 1940. In spite of this, the species ranges are underestimated, mainly due to the large area of Brazil and the complexity of its ecosystems. The present study was conducted from 2000 to 2003 in several environments with different preservation levels. The results expand the geographical distribution of the following species of the Drosophila repleta group in southern Brazil: Drosophila carolinae Vilela 1983, D. mapiriensis Vilela & Bachli 1990, D. papei Bachli & Vilela 2002, D. pictura Wasserman 1962, D. querubimae Vilela 1983, D. nigricruria Patterson & Mainland in Patterson 1943 and D. limensis Pavan & Patterson in Pavan & Cunha 1947. These are the southernmost records of these species in the Neotropical Region. key words: D rosophilidae, Drosophila repleta species group, species distribution, Brazil, Neotropics.
