Systems and Equipment

Many types of UVGI systems and equipment are currently available for air and surface disinfection applications. These systems include lamps, fixtures, and ballasts, and often include reflective surfaces to enhance the irradiance field. Various other components may form part of more complete systems, including filters, light baffles, and UV-absorbing surfaces. Disinfection systems are specialized for each application and are either prefabricated or are engineered to adapt to particular applications. The previous chapter reviewed the types of lamps, ballasts, and basic lamp fixtures that are currently available. This chapter reviews complete UV systems, how the components are put together for specific applications, and general characteristics. Table 6.1 classifies the main types of UVGI systems used for air and surface disinfection.
