Novel method for real-time targets recognition of ballistic missile during middle course

The research on targets recognition of ballistic missile during middle course has the vital significance in the selection and design of materials of warhead and baits. It is also important to improve the probability of breaking through the defense systems of the ballistic missile. A new method of targets recognition of ballistic missile during middle course was proposed. Firstly, infrared radiant intensity series were figured out using images series gained from infrared sensor. Secondly, targets characteristics of frequency domain were acquired using FFT for the series. At last, the features of targets and warhead and prior data were matched. By repeating these three steps, the warhead could be found out finally. Experimental results show that this proposed method can recognize the warhead in real time and efficiently. The novel method focuses on the inverse radiant intensity series of targets rather than the geometry characteristic or gray characteristic of images, and makes the recognition result more reliable and speed faster.
