Specimen: OEsophagus from a Middle-aged Man, showing a Congenital Opening into the Trachea.

Di8cussion.-Mr. HAROLD BARWELL asked whether Sir James's diagnosis was that the swelling was the result of myxcedema. The speaker had seen a certain amount of thickening of the laryngeal mucosa in myxcedematous patients, but never such a degree of swelling as in this case. Mr. HERBERT TILLEY said that cases of a similar type had been described by Brown-Kelly in 1901 (Lancet), under the term sclerotic hyperplasia of the pharynx and nasopharynx. He (the speaker) thought he had seen a similar condition following pneumococcal infection. Mr. NORMAN PATTERSON asked whether the Wassermann had been tested in this case.
