A child with right hemisphere deficit syndrome responsive to carbamazepine treatment.

Abstract An 11 -year-old boy presented with atypical depressive features, academic deficits, and interpersonal difficulties associated with frequent right temporal spikes on his EEG. He was treated with carbamazepine as an inpatient and showed a rapid response to his affective illness and interpersonal relations. On 1-year follow-up he had not had any recurrence of previous symptoms, and repeat testing showed significant improvement in his previous academic deficits.
