In two rabbits "Dextran" was infused intravenously, in a dose of four to five millilitres, wheneverthe systolic blood pressurefell below 40 millimetres of mercury. In neither case was the heart rate increasedor the blood pressure permanentlyraised. Mere maintenanceof the circulating blood volume is not, therefore, remedial. One of these animalsreceivedin addition "Antistine", an anti-histaminic drug, in a doseof 10 milligrammes. .This was given intramuscularlynaif an hour after the injection of the venom, again after tracheotomy,and twice intravenouslyover the next six hours. It did not counteractthe bradycardia,or materially raise the falling blood pressure.
