The effect of ground transmission time on the response of long structures

Abstract The influence of the transmission time of a seismic-like ground disturbance upon the response of a long structure is studied. The responses are evaluated in terms of extreme value statistics. In view of the simplicity of the bridge model and the fact that only one numerical example was considered, the only conclusion which can be advanced at this moment is that the transmission time of a seismic disturbance should not be ignored when considering the response and safety of a long structure.
