Surface-enhanced resonance hyper-Raman scattering and surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering of dyes adsorbed on silver electrode and silver colloid: a comparison study

Abstract Surface-enhanced resonance hyper-Raman scattering (SERHRS) and surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) of three dyes, rhodamine 6G, crystal violet and basic fuchsin, are studied comparatively on electrochemically roughened silver electrode and silver colloid, respectively. All three dyes show a better SERHRS efficiency on the silver colloid than on the silver electrode, a phenomenon just opposite to what we have recently observed for pyridine and pyrazine [Chem. Phys. Lett. 305 (1999) 303]. These results suggest that the efficiency of SEHRS depends not only on the active surfaces employed (colloidal metals versus roughened electrodes) but also on the types of the adsorbed molecules.
