The transmission line matrix (TLM) method is applied to the analysis of electromagnetic scattering from finite-sized conducting and dielectric objects. The TLM method is a general numerical method for obtaining an approximate solution to the time-dependent form of Maxwell's equations in the presence of geometrically complex environments. The three-dimensional symmetrical-condensed TLM node together with a total/scattered field formulation and a local absorbing boundary condition are applied. Numerical results for a variety of conducting and dielectric objects demonstrate the accuracy of the method. Various guidelines for the successful application of the method to this class of problem are provided.
