New method for identification and synthesis of linear systems from frequency-response data

The method presented in the paper obtains a rational approximation to the system function from a set of data containing modulus and, possibly, phase information as functions of frequency. The structure of the function need not be known in advance, and the method is noniterative. The technique is to transform a polynomial approximation of the data into a rational function by introducing an error term of the correct form.
