Some experimental aircraft engine noise facilities in the United Kingdom

Abstract Development of aerodynamic noise theories has demanded greater sophistication of acoustic test facilities and measuring techniques. Experimental work at much reduced scale is usually necessary which entails further complexity. Finally the success of the engine designer must be demonstrated at full scale with accurate flight trials. Problems of acoustic and aerodynamic similarity are encountered at all stages and are discussed.
