Contrast enhancement plays a significant role in computer vision, image processing, pattern recognition. Gamma correction is an efficient method to do contrast enhancement. The recently published thesis is based on assigning different gamma values to each pixel linearly. However, that has over-enhancement problem because gamma value difference in adjacent pixels is small. In this paper, we propose quadratic form gamma correction to mitigate over-enhancement by setting large gamma value difference in adjacent pixels at high intensity. Experimental results show that proposed method produces enhanced images of higher quality than the previous method.
