Health Impact Assessment (HIA) for the proposed biomass power plant at Kings Dock, Port Tennant, Swansea Report prepared by Alison Searl, IOM (2010). The overall aim of this HIA was to assess the potential impact, if any, of emissions from the proposed plant on community health. The specific objectives listed below were intended to address the concerns raised by the local community and others that were summarised in the interim planning report, namely to determine the: • Baseline health in local communities based on existing statistics (eg those available from the National Public Health Service of Wales and the Office of National Statistics) • The health impacts of stack emissions including particulate matter (PM), oxides of nitrogen (NOx), oxides of sulphur (SOx), trace metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and other organic compounds; • The potential impacts of any fugitive emissions such as dust and bioaerosol1 during construction and operation of the plant; • The health impacts of traffic emissions generated by the plant, particularly particulate matter and NOx.
