Towards the development of an intelligent spatial decision support system

This contribution deals with the efficient and effective integration of databases, knowledge, intuition, inference, and graphics in spatial decision support systems (SDSS) through fuzzy logic and expert system technology. The purpose is to develop a powerful software environment for building SDSS for spatial decisionmaking with declarative (rule-based) and procedural (algorithms and models) knowledge. The fuzzy-logic-based expert system shell, the nerve center of the SDSS, is first discussed. The general architecture of the SDSS is then proposed and examined. It is apparent that knowledge-based SDSS is a must for a successful development of the field. Systems with little intelligence will not withstand the test of time.
