A Perspective of the Third Generation Mobile Communications System

A comprehensive overview of the third generation (3G) mobile communications is introduced in this paper.The 10 proposals for the 3G IMT 2000 radio transmission technology (RTT),which were submitted to ITU,are described with the attention paid to the leading technologies WCDMA and CDMA2000.The main 3G inherent features and possible network evolution architectures are discussed,and the key techniques that would be involved in the 3G system are addressed.
