Comprehensive Psychotherapy for Mood Disorders by using Mrityunjaya Mantra(Bio Psycho Socio Spiritual Approach)

Mental disorders were the second leading cause of disease burden in terms of years lived with disability (YLD’s) and the sixth leading cause of disability-adjusted life-years (DALY’s) in the world in 2017, posing a serious challenge to health systems, particu-larly in low-income and middle-income countries. In India, it is estimated that nearly one-third of patients seeking help from healthcare facilities could have symptoms related to depression, and the crude prevalence rate of mood disorder was estimated to vary from as low as 0.5 to as high as 78 per 1000 population.In the current scenario the management of these mood disorders can be achieved with the help of various therapies. The bio –psycho –socio- spiritual school of mental health helps an individual attain the complete well-being so as to promote fulfillment, happiness, meaning of life, joy and character growth. Following case series, Comprehensive Psychotherapy (CPT) was applied for Bipolar Affective Disorder (BPAD) in the form of mrithyunjaya mantram. All cases claimed improvement of symptoms and quality of life with CPT. Integrating spiritual interventions into psychiatric practice may be more effective for some patients in certain conditions.
