Proceedings of the First Annual ACM SIGMM Conference on Multimedia Systems, MMSys 2010, Phoenix, Arizona, USA, February 22-23, 2010

It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to the first annual Multimedia Systems Conference. In response to queries regarding an ACM-sponsored conference focused on multimedia computing and networking, we have started the ACM Multimedia Systems (MMSys) Conference series. The focus of this conference is at the intersection of digital media and the systems (applications, architectures, networking, operating systems) that handle them. Our goal is to cut across a diverse set of computer science subfields in order to achieve a longitudinal perspective on the challenges that multimedia data types present. This year we had 59 submissions from all over the world. The program committee accepted 25 high-quality papers this year. In order to help seed the diversity of domains, we have included several invited papers in the areas of networked games, virtual environments, and next-generation video coding standards.
