One of the recognized difficulties in detecting signals, either radio or optical, from extraterrestrial intelligence is the so-called synchronicity problem. Is there any way to maximize the probability that our instruments are turned in the direction of the transmitters at the time when the signals reach us? This is clearly an issue, as most SETI observations in any given direction last for only seconds or minutes.
