Searching for performance targets in the behavioral analysis of occupational health and safety: An assessment strategy

This paper describes the advantages, development and implementation of an assessment strategy for identifying performance targets in the analysis of occupational health and safety. Factors to consider in selecting performance targets, such as social importance and practicality, and methods for generating a comprehensive list of performance targets are presented. These are illustrated by describing how lists of safe and unsafe practices and conditions were generated in two production plants. Finally, methods of applying this assessment strategy in other organizations and for other performance targets are discussed.
