Analysis on the performance of micro swing rotor engine

A new type of differential and without-stopping micro swing rotor engine (MSRE) was researched in this paper, and the relatively integral thermodynamic simulation model under the MATLAB environment was developed. The results of calculation show that the shortening of combustion duration is beneficial to the improvement of the engine performance. Both leakage and heat transfer are the main factors affecting the engine performance. The effect of leakage is more serious at low-frequency and the factor of heat transfer is more sensitive at high-frequency. The efficiency and power of MSRE decrease with the leakage gap decreasing. When the leakage gap is constant, as the operating frequency increases, the efficiency and power increase at first and decrease later. Considering the effect of leakage and heat transfer, assuming that the leakage gap is controlled as 20 μm, the maximum thermal efficiency reaches 17.36% at the frequency of 50 Hz, and the maximum power reaches 2121.2 W at the frequency of 100 Hz. Compared with the micro size and one hundred-watt level internal combustion engine, MSRE has significant advantages.
