Full Wavefield Migration Applied to Field Data

Full wavefield migration (FWM) aims at handling the full reflection data (including surface and internal multiples) for seismic imaging. FWM involves a closed-loop process that estimates the subsurface reflectivity by explaining the total reflection data, where multiples are generated from these reflectivities. In this paper it is demonstrated how FWM can be extended such that it can also estimate an unknown source wavelet. The FWM with the source estimation extension has been applied to marine field data, for which good results have been obtained.
