Apparatus and method for real time defective pixel detection and correction

An apparatus and a method for detecting and correcting defective pixels in real time are provided to reduce the cost of production by judging whether a reference pixel is a white pixel or a black pixel, sequentially executing primary line detection and secondary 5x5 window detection, and performing detection and correction at the same time, without the necessity of storing the location of a defective pixel in a memory. An apparatus for detecting and correcting defective pixels in real time comprises a primary line detection part(100) and a secondary 5x5 window detection part(600). The primary line detection part(100) executes primary line detection for the output of an image sensor and outputs a primary line detection output. The secondary 5x5 window detection part(600) receives the primary line detection output outputted from the primary line detection part(100), executes secondary 5x5 window detection, and outputs the final output.
