THE CHICAGO ACCIDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM ARE TO ACCOMMODATE CHICAGO'S PRESENT MODE OF OPERATION, AND, AT THE SAME TIME, TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE CURRENT STATE OF COMPUTING MACHINERY. THE SYSTEM INCLUDES A FOUR-YEAR ACCIDENT HISTORY IN A FORM AUTOMATICALLY OBTAINABLE FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S ROUTTINE INPUT. THE SYSTEM PERFORMS FOUR ANALYTICAL FUNCTIONS: DISCLOSURE OF THE DETAILED CONTENTS OF THE DATA BASE, EXTRACTION OF A LOCATION'S ACCIDENT PROFILE, SUMMARIZATION OF ACCIDENTS CITY-WIDE, AND INDICATION OF CRITICAL LOCATIONS. THE SYSTEM IS MODULAR AND FLEXIBLE TO ALLOW FOR FUTURE EXPANSION OF ITS DATA BASE.
