VAR Optimization in Power Systems Based on Improved PSO

A brief introduction to the principles of PSO is given and aiming at the shortcoming of PSO algorithm that is easily plunging into the local minmmum,an improved PSO is put forword according to the practice of VAR optimization in power system.In the improved PSO a new initialization and different method to update particles are used,the mutation operator is led in and the problem to be solved is divided into sub-problems.Applying the improved PSO to the calculation of IEEE 14-node system,the calculation results show that the optimization effect by the improved PSO is better than other artificial intelligent algorithms.
