Compact microstrip antenna

Microstrip antennas usually require a ground plane that is much larger than the radiating patch. To make a microstrip antenna compact, it is essential to reduce the size of the ground plane. In this paper, it is shown that the ground plane becomes substantially smaller than that of a conventional microstrip antenna with similar radiation characteristics after folding the radiating patch over the ground plate, resulting in a compact folded microstrip antenna. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
