Symbiotic Evolution to Generate Chord Progression Consisting of Four Parts for a Music Composition System

Automatic systems that compose music adapted to personal sensibility have been proposed. These systems induce a personal sensibility model by using a listener’s emotional impressions of music and compose music based on the model using evolutionary computation algorithms. The objective of this study was to compose music consisting of four parts: introduction, development, turn, and conclusion. We propose a method for generating chord progressions based on a symbiotic evolution algorithm that is characterized by parallel evolutions of both partial and whole solutions. Our experimental results show that the proposed method effectively composes musical pieces having the target structure.
