Optimizing subcontracting choice in the context of integrated maintenance into production

This article addresses the problem of integrated maintenance and production management for a manufacturing system. The latter is subject to a random failure and characterized by a maximum production rate. With a view to meet a constant demand over time and greater than the maximum production capacity, the company uses outsourcing. Therefore, there are two strategies for selecting subcontractors. The first strategy is to make an optimal choice of a single subcontractor. The second strategy is characterized by switching between two subcontractors. Moreover, the choice between the subcontractors is based on several data. Consequently, the objective is to verify the results and evaluate the performance of the reference model [1]. This model optimizes simultaneously the different costs: maintenance, production and lost orders by simultaneously determining the optimal age of preventive maintenance and the switching date between subcontractors.
