Edge Preserving Operations for Image Segmentation

The edge-preserving smoothing (EPS) algorithm originally proposed by Nagao and Matsuyama is generalized and adapted for use in image segmentation by allowing the use of a variety of similarity criteria, and adjusting the window size and shape.
