Capacity and voltage of power system has been increased due to increased power demand by the industrial development. Therefore, the stability and reliability are very important things. Main features of GIS, like extremely low space requirements and high reliability, offer smart and economic solutions for complex switchgear applications, e.g. in densely populated areas, for aesthetic town planning or under severe environmental impact. Both Failure report of LS and CIGRE Report are reviewed to find the root cause of failures so that they are applied to develop reliability testings. According to the results failures occur on the mechanism between CB, DS, and ES. Symptoms are failure of switching device to operate on command, loss of mechanical function, Loss of SF6 gas, and etc. Root cause of failure are related with manufacture, design, and wear/aging. Furthermore, failures and defects in service show that approximately 25% of the major and minor failures. This is the third highest cause of failure after operating mechanisms and leak tightness of SF6 gas system and associated monitoring.
