The tangential force transmitted by two elastic bodies rolling over each other with pure creepage

Abstract In the present paper an empirical formula is proposed which gives the connection between the two components of creepage on the one hand, and the total tangential force transmitted by two rolling elastic bodies on the other hand. The formula is tested using the experimental results of Johnson 6, the numerical results of Kalker 8,10 and the creepage coefficients which were calculated by Kalker 10 according to a method due to De Pater 12. It is found that the empirical formula, generally speaking, is in good agreement with the evidence.
