Simple CAD formula for the microstrip line on L‐SIAD

This article presents a simple CAD formula for the microstrip line on localized substrate integrated artificial dielectric (L‐SIAD) by synthetic asymptote. For L‐SIAD, there is a metal post array embedded in the substrate and connected to the bottom ground plane. All the metal posts are right under (but not connected to) the microstrip line. The simple CAD formula is accurate with average error less than 2% compared with numerical results, and gives good physical insight. Finally, this formula is applied to the design of an L‐SIAD microstrip line. The simulations and measurements show good agreements. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
