Theses on Scottish geology, 1986–89

This listing follows a series previously published in the Scottish Journal of Geology (a full list is given in the References). Theses issued from 1986-89 are covered, and a number of pre-1986 theses titles not found in previous lists are included. Cumulated lists are available for consultation in BGS libraries in Edinburgh and Keywor th and are also deposited in the British Library Document Supply Centre (BLDSC) (SUP 24025). The titles arc arranged alphabetically by author in broad subject groups. The reader is advised to scan titles under related headings when searching for a thesis by subject, in case the topic of a thesis spans two or more groups. Descriptions in square brackets have been added where necessary, to clarify titles whose link with Scotland is not apparent. Theses are all Ph .D.s or D.Phil .s unless otherwise stated. The British Library ' D ' numbers have been included where known, and should be used in interlibrary loan applications to the BLDSC. The reader is also referred to the study made by Will (1991) which concerns the part played by the research thesis in scientific communication, and concentrates on the use of Scottish Ph .D . theses in geology and related sub-disciplines. The earlier theses (1960-1983) form the data set on which Will has based his research. His work includes a useful map showing the localities of 286 thesis study areas in Scotland.
