PASSING INSPECTIONS : NYSDOT DRIVES THROUGH WORK ZONES WITH PEN IN HAND

The New York State Department of Transportation conducts yearly surveys to assess traffic control strategies' effectiveness in work zones. Inspections occur at the peak of the construction season to generate a large enough sample. Drive-through inspectors use checkoff forms and narratives which are analyzed to identify areas where more emphasis is needed. They include: traffic barriers, signage, flagging and accommodations for pedestrians and bicyclists.
