OPTICAL SPECTRA OF M, F$sub 3$$sup +$-SINGLET, AND F$sub 3$$sup +$-TRIPLET CENTERS IN NaF.

X irradiated NaF crystals contain after bleaching the F band mainly M and F centres. Complete orientation of the M centres and partial orientation of the F centres can be achieved. The F centres, identified by their 545.6 nm zero-phonon line, have broad absorption bands at 512 and 303 nm. Upon strong excitation in the region of the 303 nm band a temporary bleaching of both the bands and the zero-phonon line is found and ascribed to population of a metastable F-centre triplet state with a lifetime of τ = 1.9 s at 77 °K. Rontgenverfarbte NaF-Kristalle enthalten nach Ausbleichen der F-Bande hauptsachlich M- und F-Zentren. Die M-Zentren lassen sich vollstandig, die F-Zentren teilweise ausrichten. Die an der 545,6 nm-Nullphononenlinie identifizierten F-Zentren haben breite Absorptionsbanden bei 512 und 303 nm. Bei starker Anregung in der Gegend der 303 nm-Bande findet man ein “temporary bleaching” beider Banden und der Nullphononenlinie, das wir der Besetzung eines metastabilen Triplettzustands des F-Zentrums mit einer Lebensdauer τ = 1.9 s (77 °K) zuschreiben.
