The threshold of visual transients

Abstract By virtue of the postulate of Rashbass (1970) it appears possible to predict the threshold of arbitrary luminance transients from the threshold of pairs of short flashes. In the model the filter action of the visual system is represented merely by the autocorrelation function L(T) of the impulseresponse. The predicting feature of Rashbass' model is tested by calculations and experiments and is found to hold basically. Reasons for small-scale incompatibilities are discussed.
