On the reduction of ONU upstream buffering for PON/xDSL hybrid access networks

We investigate upstream transmission coordination for PON/xDSL hybrid access networks. We introduce a novel GATED flow control mechanism to reduce the upstream buffering at the optical network unit (drop point) that bridges the fiber and copper transmission media. We provide extensive experimental analysis of various flow control mechanisms including our novel GATED flow control.
