Determination of product quality from an FMS cell using fuzzy Petri nets

The paper describes a hierarchical approach to the modelling and control of an FMS cell using Petri nets. Utilising fuzzy Petri nets (fuzzy logic with Petri nets), a technique based on three fuzzy rules is developed. The tool speed (S) and feed rate (R) throughout the milling process is used to determine surface finish (F). This methodology can be used to determine quality of the output products from a CNC-milling machine within an FMS cell. It also demonstrates an error recovery technique for the tool damage during the milling operation using a Petri net.<<ETX>>
