Analysis, Design and Fabrication of a Reflectarray Antenna Using Elements with Reduced Reflection Phase Sensitivity

A reflectarray antenna (RA) with circular aperture is analyzed, designed, constructed and measured. The structure of the element consists of two co-centric multi-resonance circular rings with variable size. By changing the outer and inner radii of the inner ring towards the center of the co-centric rings, the sensitivity to the manufacturing error and the loss of the element decreases while the 360° phase-range is present. Therefore, the proposed element results in a high-performance broadband RA. The measured peak gain result is 26.4dBi at 10GHz with 16.3% 1dB gain bandwidth.
