Using a datalogger to determine first-order kinetics and calcium carbonate in eggshells

The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the use of a datalogger in conjunction with a pressure sensor to monitor the generation of carbon dioxide when calcium carbonate is in contact with hydrochloric acid. This method is used to determine the calcium carbonate content in eggshells. This experiment provides hands-on experience for students in an advanced placement or second-year high school level chemistry course to gain understanding of a pseudo first-order reaction and determine the major component of eggshells.
