An information flow security model for home area network of smart grid

Compared to the conventional home area network (HAN), the HAN in a smart grid environment features a higher level of innovative technologies and larger amounts of data, which demands a comprehensive approach to securing its data transmission and communications. In this paper, we analyze the information flow in the HAN and present a security model to secure the information in its transmission. An implementation method for applying the model in the HAN is proposed through embedding a component in every HAN device. Its function is to assign the security labels to the data packages and enforce the information flow policy. Results from the simulation show that it is effective to manage the information flow securely in the HAN.
