A high-efficient 3-D Nefer-antenna for LTE communication on a car

In this article a new antenna for Long Term Evolution (LTE) communication technology for automotive application is presented. It is designed to be set on the roof of a car underneath a standard plastic cover. Even though the antenna operates at a wide frequency band (from 698 MHz to 960 MHz and from 1470 MHz to 2700 MHz) in small mounting volume, the antenna requires no matching network. It obtains the demanded omnidirectional radiation pattern within all the above mentioned LTE frequency bands. A low-loss panel design enables a high efficiency of the antenna. The antenna properties are shown via simulation and measurement results of a functional demonstrator.
