On the Design of an IGV-Based Servo System for Air Cushion Vessels

Abstract In this paper, a servo system for a centrifugal fan complemented with an Inlet Guide Vane (IGV), is considered. An IGV-fan system, at constant fan speed, can be regarded as a single-input single-output dynamical system. The IGV-fan system is characterised by non-trivial non-linearities. For the servo design, a direct method, called Virtual Reference Direct Design, which makes use of I/O measurement only has been used. Such a method enables one to work out in a black-box fashion the approximate inverse of a non-linear system, and it provides satisfactory performances when used for the design of the approximate inverse of an IGV-fan system.
