Wheeled planetary rover testbed

To increase our understanding of planetary rover class vehicles Martin Marietta has embarked on the design and construction of a wheeled planetary rover testbed. The vehicle utilizes wheels for mobility and compliments the research being performed with our legged planetary rover the Walking Beam. Designed. for simplicity and reliability the Wheeled Planetary Rover testbed (WPR) is approximately the same size as the Walking Beam (152 cm long). A four wheel all-wheel drive system provides the WPR with a representative mobility capability that will allow for realistic planetary mission simulations.© (1991) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
